My Magical New Windows

Isn`t a childs imagination a wonderful thing? I am going to give you an account of the day our house had new windows put in and how as a small boy it seemed to transform my whole universe. Here is a recount of my feelings and what I saw on that magical day.

It was a Monday morning, but this particular Monday I rose excitedly bright and early from my bed and hurried downstairs. This was not because I was looking forward to school, and it wasn`t even because it was a school holiday, it was because my Mum and Dad had ordered new windows for our home including my bedroom window!! And they were going to be double glazed windows too!! I was beside myself with excitement!

“What time are the window men coming” I blurted out to my Mum who had only just emerged from bed herself and was just putting the kettle on. “9.00 but its not yet 7.30 so please calm down!!” I calmed down, at least for my breakfast, and sat there looking at the clock in the kitchen.

Let me give you a bit of background information. We weren`t a rich family, weren`t desperately poor as Dad had a job at the Post Office but there were 3 kids to feed and bills and clothes and food and as my Mum often said money doesn`t grow on trees. The house was in a bit of a state, especially my bedroom window. Draughts got through the side so it was bitterly cold in the winter, it was scratched and dirty both inside and out with mould often forming on the sills, and I couldn`t see through it properly, and when I did the marks and scratches made me conjure up ghosts and bogey men in the twilight as my fevered mind would play tricks with me.

Then the window men came. They were nice men which was unusual and they smiled and chatted to me as they went about their work as I watched. My window was done in about 90 minutes flat and it was awesome!!!! The sun had come out and was blasting through the new double glazing, there was no noise from outside for the first time I can ever remember.

The window seemed twice as wide as normal and something magical was happening. I could suddenly see hot air balloons billowing up into the sky, a huge rainbow emerged with a young lady sat astride it waving at me, and I could see New York right outside, people with cool hats on scurrying across the streets, bright yellow taxis everywhere, theatres, cafes and restaurants on every corner, and skyscrapers as far as the eye can see.

The scene swiftly changed to Sydney harbour bridge and then onto Africa where I watched wildebeest, lions, snakes and monkeys from my window. I spent an age staring out at all these scenes, entranced and bewiched, until my Mum called me down for tea.

I had these visions many times through my childhood, sometimes whilst looking through my window and sometimes whilst sleeping and although they weren`t real they were some of the best times of my life. And all because of my brand new magical window.

Smyth Window Systems Open Windows Of Opportunity For You

Now I do like a good window! A window is your entrance (or exit) from the outside world, it can either keep you in touch with the neighborhood or keep you safe from the neighborhood, or both as the circumstances dictate. I like lovely big open windows that let as much light as possible into the room.

The reason I mention all of this to you is that I came across Smyth Window Systems who are based in Portadown in Northern Ireland, and they have such a good selection of windows to choose from I thought i had to share them with you, so without further ado here goes:

Sliding Sash Windows

Above are what is commonly known as Sliding Sash Windows which are very traditional but still popular in new housing even today because I suspect they look so cool!

Casement Windows

Now this one is a Casement Window, and these are great as if it is a hot day you can make your home bright and breezy by opening up the windows as seen on the picture, and it is a very modern and clean design.

Tilt And Turn Windows

Tilt and Turn Windows are very flexible and again are useful for opening up and letting the air into the room. The windows can be tilted open at the top to provide lots of ventilation and these are particular favouritesof mine.

French Windows

As we all know the French are a very bright and clever race (though a touch argumentative at times!!) and they created the wonderful French Windows which can give you maximum ventilation and unrestricted access. Voila!!

Triple Glazed Windows

And last but definitely not least we have the Triple Glazed Windows which are very useful if like me you live in the UK and it barely rises above freezing even in the summer! These of course help keep the warmth and so the heating bills down and also cut down the amount of condensation in the air.

There are many other window variations of course but I thought I would just give you a flavour of some of my favourite ones. As for Smyth Window Systems, I suggest you check them out.
